Australian Poker Tips

by Johnny poker on Jan.16, 2012, under Online poker news

Thanks to celebrities such as Shane Warne, poker is an incredibly popular game in Australia.Whether you play online or live poker, Australia has a lot to offer

Poker is an incredibly popular game in Australia. Celebrities such as Shane Warne have catapulted poker into the mainstream, and people of all ages are enjoying playing poker online, and in live games at poker rooms.

It’s not surprising that Australian poker is so popular. Poker is a fun and social game which mixes both luck and skill. It’s easy to learn, and has lots of nuances. To truly master poker requires a quick mind, good mathematical skills, and good psychology.

Australian poker law means that companies cannot advertise online poker cash games in the country, but there are lots of free to play online poker sites. If you’d like to learn the game, why not check out one of the sites advertised by Shane Warne?

As well as playing online poker games, you can play in poker tourneys at one of the many Australian poker leagues. The Australian poker league covers most of the country, so there should be an active branch near you.

As well as playing poker on sites that are advertised in Australia, don’t forget that you can play poker on many international sites too. Often, the sites that have a .net arm in Australia also have .com versions for other countries. You are free to sign up for these if you wish. These sites will give you the chance to meet players from other parts of the world, and enjoy a wide range of poker games including Texas Holdem, Omaha Hi/lo, and other popular poker variations.

Whatever poker variant you play, make sure you remember that the most important thing is that you have fun. If you’re ever stressed or worried about your poker games, take a break. Only play with money that you have reserved as “recreational” – don’t chase losses, and don’t spend more than you can afford while you’re playing. If you win, that’s great! If you don’t, then at least you can say you had fun playing.

Poker on line, how to avoid the most frequent errors?

by Johnny poker on Jan.15, 2012, under Online poker tips and rules

Very often, the beginners spend the hours to reading various theories on the poker, studying their hands and to think of strategies to end up sitting down in front of their computer and throwing their tokens by the windows while playing in Texas hold’ EM on line. The reason for which they lose, most of the time, has nothing to do with the lack of chance or theoretical knowledge. They lose because they make and remake the same errors each time they play.

To gain with the poker, there is nothing magic. All that you will have to make, it is to understand the rules and to play in a judicious way, but for a reason which I am unaware of, much make of the errors to the poker on line.

The first error, it is not to be rather attentive. People read that the experienced pros play ten parts at the same time and they try to imitate them, saying themselves “more I play of parts and more I will gain”. But that goes only if you have experience. When you begin, you must on the contrary be super attentive for each hand.

The second error with the poker on line, it is too much to use the automatic function play – it rises partly from the first error. The fact of playing into auto–play often sends the such important ones. For example, you checkez immediately because you are weak or you misez automatically because your hand is strong. The fact of playing each hand and of making a pause of a few seconds from time to time makes it possible to mix the signals and to make so that it is more difficult to read you.

The error number three, it is to show your charts. You think can be that gives you the air strong and full with confidence, but in fact, you are just imprudent. With the poker, never share your information, unless that is absolutely necessary – people remember what you did in the past and use this knowledge with their advantage.

Lastly, error number four, do not speak badly. If somebody plays like a beginner, let do it. To make leave while running your table will help you of nothing, the only result, it is that people will hate you.

Bluff with the poker on line

The bluff is one of the first things which people associate with the poker and it is a useful tool in any strategy of poker, on condition that not it misusing.
If you already saw a film of poker, you will have noticed that the bluff holds an important place to with it. It is not quite difficult to understand why the beginners think that is a paramount part of the play. Actually, the bluff is only one small portion of the strategy of poker and the great majority of the hands, it does not even enter on account.

The bluff with the poker attracts much, in particular if one regards it as a potential point of adrenalin. The bluff, approximately, amounts lying. The fact of gaining with a bluff can pay large and if you are made take, you lose the pot. It is exciting, in particular if it is well done.

But it is the most important point there. Because if you too often bluff with the poker, that will not bring back large thing to you and your bankroll will suffer from instability, in particular if you play against players of poker who play that when they have a good hand. In the same way, if you never bluff, you will be too foreseeable. Approximately, it is necessary a happy medium so that the bluff is effective with the poker.

When you bluff, you will run the risk to lose and that will be able to have a psychological price. If you are in a bad master key, it is normal to want to take its revenge with some gained hands. But if you want to succeed with the poker, it is a desire which you will have to learn how to exceed.

The least painful way to succeed, it is to have the winner hand, of miser and to be made follow. But one cannot guarantee to you that will arrive to you each time. So that occasionally, you will have to give a small blow of growth to the destiny. If it is well done and at the good moment, the bluff will be able to help you with succeeding well with the poker on line.

Play Multiple Tables in Online Poker to Increase Your Winnings!

by Johnny poker on Oct.02, 2011, under Online poker news

Article by Online-Poker

The wonderful thing about online poker is you can actually play multiple tables at the same time! This is something that is not available with real poker in land-based casinos. This can be done at any reputable poker site out there like Sportsbook.com, or you can always play at multiple sites at once! Also, keep in mind that poker software from each site is quite different, so choose wisely and choose the software that you are most happy with. Always check the system requirements since your computer may not be able to take it when you play them all at the same time, which might cause your computer to crash so be wary.

After choosing the software you like playing with, you can start playing multiple tables at the same time. Switching between tables is easy, and you can do it with just a simple click of the mouse button. You can see when it is your turn to bet and setting up the software to let you know when this is happening is also simple. Adjusting the table size is important since you may want to see every window or table you’re playing at with ease. Playing the way you want is, of course, up to you. So, adjusting and setting your screen to your liking can work to your advantage.

You can deal 60-80 hands per hour with online poker by playing many tables. And if you are always winning then it is easy math that your earnings can multiply exponentially!

The thing you shouldn’t forget is playing multiple tables should only be done if you are a confident winning poker player. If you are an inept player, don’t be surprised if your money goes down the drain. Playing more tables mean you are going to make quick decisions at times and your concentration will be divided among these games. With poor skills and low concentration then you might click the wrong buttons, which may ultimately spell your defeat.

You can try practicing with fake money first so your concentration skills might increase and soon get the hang of it. Developing your game is, of course, a great thing since you will use it to earn some cold, hard cash!

Try learning from the pros at wikipokerroom.com or just go ahead and play online if you are confident enough.

Texas Holdem Strategy Guide For Online Poker Players

by Johnny poker on Jan.31, 2011, under Online poker tips and rules

Mastering Texas Holdem Strategy is the key to success at Texas Holdem. Like all online poker players your ability to execute good strategy will determine how good you are and what sort of results you have. Given Texas Holdem is quite a simple game it is amazing how complex Texas Holdem strategy actually is.

One of the first things you need to know about it is that it is situational and thus highly malleable. Two situations which seemingly look identical will call for varying differing actions. This is why Texas Hold’em Poker Strategy is so hard to grasp and why doing well at online poker takes lots of practice.

Here we will go over basic Texas Hold’em Strategy and the different components which make it up. As a result of this you should have a better idea of how to play the game.

General Texas Holdem Strategy

But there is a lot more to Texas Holdem poker Strategy than that. If you want to do well at the online poker tables you need to have General Texas Holdem Poker Strategy down to a tee. There aren’t that many games around which employ or rely on strategy as much as online poker. Failure to learn it will see you lose every time.

Generally if you want to do well at Texas Holdem Poker is to only play strong hands and do so aggressively. Be prepared to fold when you think are beat. That is really all there is to online poker and General Texas Holdem Strategy. Besides that, if you have the bottom of a straight chances are that someone has the high end of it. So if you are being raised and you don’t think they are bluffing lay it down.

Study your fellow players whenever you can. What do they do when they are late versus early? Do they bluff? If so, when? Do they go to the showdown with garbage? What are their weaknesses?

So given that what is there to General Texas Holdem Strategy that you should know?

  • See Less Flops – You should only be playing about 25% of hands which is a cardinal rule of online poker that nearly everyone violates.
  • Eliminate – The worst thing that can happen is you get beat by a guy who would have folded earlier had you put the heat on.
  • Don’t Call – You should be aggressive which means betting or raising. Calling means the other guy is in control.
  • Mix It Up – The more you mix it up, the less read your opponents have on you which is especially good in online poker where you have more of a mystery.
  • Don’t Be Scared to Fold – A good fold will save you more money than a good bet will make you

PokerStars European Poker Tour Deauville — Day 5

by Johnny poker on Jan.31, 2011, under Online poker news

The penultimate day of the PokerStars European Poker Tour Deauville saw 24 players take their seats at the Casino Barriere’s Salles des Ambassadeurs, elegantly poised along the coastline of Deauville in northern France.

Although it took over an hour to lose the first player, that set things off and in less than four levels the final table of eight was found.

Leading the way by close of play was Swede Martin Jacobson with 7,280,000 in chips. The PokerStars qualifier’s most recent success was his runner-up finish at EPT Vilamoura last September for €297,985 and at only 23 years of age, he has more than $1.3 million in live tournament winnings.

Jacobson battled with Alex Wice, the chip leader going into the day, for the top spot and although it looked like Wice was going to take it during the mid-late stages, Jacobson managed to scoop it in the final moments of the day when he made Laurent Polito the final-table bubble boy.

After Jacobson raised to 110,000, Polito three-bet to 310,000 from the big blind. The Swede called and the flop came JSpade Suit 8Spade Suit 7Heart Suit. Polito checked, Jacobson bet 300,000, and Polito moved all in for 2.7 million. Jacobson insta-called flipping over pocket sevens for bottom set. Polito revealed pocket queens, which didn’t improve on the AHeart Suit turn and JDiamond Suit river. Polito walked away a day too soon with €50,000 for comfort.

Here is EPT Deauville’s final table:

    Martin Jacobson (Sweden) 7,280,000
    Alex Wice (Canada) 6,248,000
    Kenny Hallaert (Belgium) 3,599,000
    Julien Claudepierre (France) 3,244,000
    Lucien Cohen (France) 3,085,000
    Anthony Hnatow (France) 1,644,000
    Ruslan Prydryk (Ukraine) 1,154,000
    Kaspars Renga (Latvia) 470,000

And here is what they are playing for:

    1. €880,000 ($1,202,795)
    2. €560,000
    3. €330,000
    4. €260,000
    5. €200,000
    6. €155,000
    7. €110,000
    8. €66,800

Fabrice Soulier. Credit: Neil Stoddart.Sixteen players went home with quashed dreams on day 5 as three tables became one. Emile Petit triggered the casualties when he popped Jacobson’s raise of 54,000 to 125,000 from the hijack. Big blind Fabrice Soulier folded and Jacobson shoved all in. Petit instantly called and flipped over pocket kings but Jacobson revealed pocket aces. An ace came on the flop and Jacobson sparked his rise to the top with the downfall of Petit.

Things then picked up speed as player after player hit the rail. Among them was Irishman Thomas Finneran whose A-J could not beat the Q-J of Philip Jacobson when a queen came on the flop and held.

The event also lost its one remaining American, William Johnson. He was crippled by Martin Jacobson after the two PokerStars qualifiers tangled in a pot which saw Johnson river two pair but lose out to Jacobson who rivered a straight. He was soon finished off by Kenny Hallaert and his pocket sevens, who called Johnson’s all in with ASpade Suit QSpade Suit. A seven came on the flop to put Johnson on the other side of the rail.

Familiar names Fabrice Soulier and German PokerStars qualifier Fabian Holling were also crossed off the final-table list throughout the day.

Here is the full list of results from day 5:

    9. Laurent Polito (France) €50,000
    10. Philip Jacobsen (Denmark) €50,000
    11. Franck Pepe (France) €37,500
    12. Kevin Lambert (Switzerland) €37,500

David Gorr Wins Aussie Millions 2011 Poker Tournament

by Johnny poker on Jan.31, 2011, under Online poker news

With numerous big name stars in the field, it came down to local player  and grandfather from Melbourne, David Gorr to take the massive prize of Aus $2,000,000. At 68 years of age, this was his first major tournament win and with this being the world’s second largest poker tournament it’s not a bad way to break your duck.

    David Gorr

The Aussie Millions is a fantastic tournament played at the Crown Casino in Sydney with an Aus $2million first prize that does more than enough to attract the big names. Players such as Phil Ivey, Patrik Antonius, Chris ‘Jesus’ Ferguson and Erick Lindgren were present this time around and while they put up a decent effort, it was left to a local to take down first place.

After 5 days of play (there were, however 3 first days), 721 players had finally dwindled their way down to just 1 remaining winner and while many would have predicted a star name, an up-and-coming player or a solid online pro as the eventual victor, it was David Gorr, a 68 year old Australian who finally scored his first major tournament win.

With a few cashes to his name in previous Aussie Millions events and plenty more on local tours around Australia, Gorr managed to improve his poker earnings to a ridiculous level with the Aus $2million more than eclipsing the near $200,000 he has previously won.

When the final table was set, it was a relatively star-studded affair with Patrik Anotnius representing the Full Tilt sponsored superstars, while both Chris Moorman and James Keys were representing the young British online prodigy category.

Gorr, however had other plans and took down many of the players at the table; whether they underestimated him we will never know but Gorr himself knew that while he played well, he was also the beneficiary of some decent cards and a good handful of luck too.

Antonius was the first casualty of the 8 man final table when Gorr knocked him out after flopping two pairs when he limped in with pocket Kings looking to trap. That must have been a massive boost to Gorr’s confidence as he then scythed his way through many of his opponents ensuring that Moorman, Dorfman, Ryan and Rossiter were all bumped to the rail.

At heads up play, Gorr faced young Englishman James Key who came in at a near 6 to 1 disadvantage in chips but managed to take down some serious pots and, at one point, find himself in a 12 to 1 advantage over the Australian.

It was to be Gorr’s day though and after annihilating the final table it was probably only right that he finished the job off by taking the win. It wasn’t the quickest of  heads-up affairs with 157 hands finally being played before the winner was announced but the organisers did add a 2nd dealer in order to speed things up.

The final hand saw Gorr win the tournament with two pair after his Kc-4c outstayed Keys’ 7c-3c and he became the third Australian winner in a row of the Aussie Millions Main Event after Tyron Krost in 2010 and Stewart Scott in 2009.

Amazingly during all of this poker, Gorr even managed to complete a half days work at his day job, humbly admitting he has never missed a full day of work in his life.

Fair play to him and we’re sure he’ll enjoy his winnings with his family. Can 2012 live up to this and produce yet another home grown winner though?

Strip Poker Tourney Exhibits How Gambling Can Be Charitable

by Johnny poker on Jan.30, 2011, under Online poker news

The Taking It Off For Charity poker tournament was held in Florida Friday evening, and the event was a big success. The Texas Hold’em tournament was held at The Vault Nightclub, and dozens of participants showed up in support of the St. Francis House and Goodwill Industries International.

The rules to the tournament were simple, each player that was below the average chip count at each blind, had to take off a piece of clothing and donate it to the cause. The event did not get too racy, with the rules permitting that players only be allowed to strip down to a bathing suit.

Players had an option to play the tournament for free, or to pay a $15 entry fee. The entry fee gave the players access to wings, priority seating, beer, a t-shirt, and a raffle ticket. The raffle ticket was for a chance to win a scooter. During the event, over 500 pounds of clothing was collected and donated.

Over the past few years, poker has become a driving force for charity events. Millions of dollars have been raised across the US from tournaments that are held in casinos and bars. Each tournament has a dedicated cause, and as long as the cards are in the air, players are showing up to pledge their support.

Casinos have held major fundraisers in their poker rooms, and some states where charity gambling is illegal have lawmakers trying to change the laws. Poker has become one of the most popular sports in the world over the past decade.

“For anyone looking to raise money for a good cause, holding a casino night or poker tournament is a must,” said Gaming Analyst Steve Schwartz. “Over the years, gamblers have shown that they can have as big a heart as anybody, and the millions raised from these events is further proof of that fact.”
